Staten Island has just approved a monumental bill, and is slated to be enacted in April of 2015, according to SI Live on Feb. 13th. The bill, which was sponsored by assemblyman Michael Cusick will equalize the playing field when it comes to patients suffering from substance use disorders getting the treatment that is recommended by their medical doctors, and treatment plans insurance companies want to pay for. Typically, insurance companies opt for lesser forms of addiction treatment, waiting for patients to fail first, and then cover the initial treatment recommended by medical professionals.
